TG Book Club: Mythology & Literature
Who is eligible? Priority to Book Club members continuing from last year. Grades 10-12. (There might be one or two openings).
When is it? Meets monthly on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:15 PM on the following dates in 2009:

Note that most, but not all dates, are the first Tuesday of the month.
Who teaches it? Mrs. Rindi Crissey
Mrs. Crissey is an active TG parent who has organized and led the TG Book Club for four years, advancing the ages of the group as her own boys have grown. She is thoughtfully selective with material, enthusiastic in leading book discussions, and creative with related activities.
About the course: Analysis of literature based on or related to mythology. The emphasis will be from a Christian viewpoint.
General Syllabus and books from which assignments are selected:
Sep – Intro meeting; assignment will be emailed ahead of time to registered students.
Oct – Till We Have Faces, C.S. Lewis
Nov – Till We Have Faces
Dec – The Odyssey, Homer
Jan – The Odyssey
Feb – Tales from Shakespeare, Charles & Mary Lamb
Mar – The Tolkien Reader, J.R.R. Tolkien
Apr – Pygmalion, George Bernard Shaw
May – Pygmalion
Each month will have assigned readings in Bullfinch’s Mythology or Edith Hamilton’s Mythology. The student may CHOOSE which one of those to use.
How much does it cost? $10 for the entire year
What does it include? Instructor will lead guided discussion.
What do I need to bring? Obtain and read required books and selections PRIOR to class meeting, and come prepared to discuss them.
Neither the monthly book selections nor the mythology texts are provided.
