Training Ground Future

NOTE:  The meeting originally planned for Wed., May 15th, has been POSTPONED.  Please check back for updates.

The Training Ground will likely transition soon to become a community organization —without an LLC status and without a designated building, but with the same standards and shared community of teen members.

The existence, structure, and scope of the club for 2013-14 entirely depends on volunteer parent involvement, leadership commitment, and responsible instructors working as independent contractors.

If you share the vision for a 2013-14 TG club specifically for Christian homeschooled teens, please contact Becky about your intended involvement OR simply to discuss potential areas of service to the organization.

Save the Date! TG Barn Party & Talent Show – Oct. 27th

To celebrate our 10th year, we are bringing back an old favorite:  Our “smokin’ feast BBQ country supper, barn party, and talent show at the big barn at Long Acre Farms in Macedon!  The event is Saturday, October 27th, 6:00-8:00 PM.  All TG members are invited.  There is no required fee, but a $5-10 donation is suggested, and we want your talent for the evening’s informal entertainment!  Email Mrs. Mancini with your ideas, and fellow members if you plan to do an act together.  You can even reserve the TG for rehearsal time.

Fall Course Registration Begins August 6th!

TG Members who have joined/renewed for 2012-2013 are welcome to participate in our online fall course registration, August 6-8, 2012.  Some courses will still be open for registration after the 8th if there are spaces available.

NEW this year! Intro to Debate, The Pilgrims Progress classic lit & fellowship,  Group Guitar,  Art with Charity, and more.

Returning for our special 10th year! Mrs. Rupe’s Study Skills course, Jeopardy socials, Puppetry Training,  and Back 2 Genesis Creation Workshops.

Catch some favorites, too, such as Volleyball, Running Club, and Basketball. Jr. high students can take TG Book Club with biblical connections to Who is My Neighbor?

Courses are posted for PREVIEW ONLY beginning Thursday, August 2. Please do not register before Aug. 6. Course confirmations will be sent by email one week after registration.

We are still accepting memberships for the 2012-2013 school year. See our membership page for instructions and forms to print, complete, sign, and mail in. You may also contact Becky Mancini to arrange a tour.

TG Open House & Early Bird Membership – June 12

Come on board with the CREW for the Training Ground’s 10th year!*

Membership forms and policies will be updated online by June 1st so that you can submit your membership form, payment, and (new this year) “TG Teen Plus Ten” volunteer commitment.  You may mail those to The Training Ground (postmarked anytime in June means an early bird discount!), or stop in at the Open House to drop them off.  New members can get tours and ask questions (look for the TG hosts wearing their t-shirts and caps), and there will be refreshments, too.

OPEN HOUSE:   June 12, 2012, from 2:00-4:00 PM.

*Expect some TEN-FOLD blessings this year for TG members!  Each month during the school year, we will have special events or give-aways or a TG Speaker Series event, as well as essays to encourage you ofTEN in your journey in Christ.  We will run a TOP TEN list occasionally during the year and give TEN extra TG points to the person whose submission earns the first spot.  Best of all, we will delve into the Gospel of John, chapter 10, and learn what it means to be a sheep in the fold of the Good Shepherd.

We welcome TG alums to visit, speak, fellowship, instruct.  Some of our earliest grads are now married with children.  We’d love to see you throughout the year.

My goal is that we rejunvenate while we celebrate — that the Lord has granted us a decade of fellowship, training, and inspiration at The Training Ground club.

To God be the Glory!

Spring Choral Concert – May 8

Come enjoy an evening of patriotic music performed by nearly 25 of our own TG teens.  The concert will be at Pittsford Community Church at 7:30 PM and is FREE.

The choral director, Mrs. Misty Irwin, said she “would love to have as many members of the military past or present come and enjoy the music the students have worked so hard to learn.”

Also, we welcome all TG families, their friends, neighbors, and the community!

Mrs. Judy Monro will provide piano accompaniment.

Refreshments following.

Make Fresh Tracks!

Sidetracked Seminars on Christian Living for Teens begin in February for Sr. High girls, then continue in April for Jr. High members, finishing in May for Sr. High boys.  Read the course description and register for this free, yet valuable, program.

Members in grades 7-10 can also make tracks at our Snowshoe Hike in February.  Email Mrs. Mancini to reserve a pair of snowshoes and be ready to “Adventure Out” at Powder Mills Park on the morning of Feb. 8 (or if there is insufficient snow, our second attempt will be Feb. 15).

Spring 2012 Online Course Registration Begins Soon

Beginning Tuesday, December 6, 2011, TG members may register online for spring courses.  In addition to our favorite courses, the club is adding Art: Fashion Design and two high school level writing courses (both Creative Writing and Writing Practice for expository essays).  We also look forward to some Teen seminars on Biblical Living this semester called Sidetracked (for Sr. High) and Short Track (for Jr. High).  Some courses are online for PREVIEW, but more will be added soon.
